About ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Beltola, Guwahati
ESIC Medical College and Hospital, Beltola, Guwahati is the first ESIC Medical College in the entire Northeast India. The ESIC Model Hospital Beltola was established in 1982–83 and commissioned in 1985, initially as a 50-bed hospital under ESI Scheme Govt. of Assam — taken over by ESI Corporation w.e.f. 04.04.2003. Upgraded to 100 beds (operational), and a new 220-bed building was completed in September 2025 to meet NMC's hospital criterion for medical college status. NMC inspection: 2 July 2025. NMC MARB LOP issued: 16 October 2025. First MBBS batch (50 seats, AY 2025-26): admission started November 2025; classes started November 2025. ESI Corporation approved establishment at its 194th meeting (8 Oct 2024). Seat distribution: 25 seats for Wards of Insured Persons (IP quota) — 12 All India IP + 13 State IP; 25 seats for Non-IP — 8 AIQ (MCC) + 17 State Quota (Assam). Dean: Prof. Dr. Sanjay Keshkar. Future new campus: 35 acres at Sonapur, Guwahati — 600-bed hospital on AIIMS lines with nursing colleges (within 5 years); 220-bed Beltola hospital will become super-specialty hospital. Only functional ESIC hospital in entire NE India — serving ESI beneficiaries across Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, and other NE states.
