The second most competitive branch is Data Science and Engineering (closing rank 3918), followed by Mathematics and Computing (4089), Electrical Engineering (6909), and Mechanical Engineering (9734). For reserved categories, ranks are significantly more relaxed.

IIT Mandi has 10 hostels — 5 in Mandi town and 3+ in the Kamand campus — for boys and girls separately. Each hostel has common rooms, induction cookers, washing machines, study spaces, and Wi-Fi. A student-run Mandi Mess Council decides mess menu and quality. The 538-acre campus is split into North and South campuses connected by 7 buses and 1 van running 6 AM–midnight. Sports facilities include a swimming pool, cricket and football grounds, badminton and tennis courts, basketball, hockey ground, and a gymnasium. Campus life is enriched by Exodia fest, Rann-Neeti sports fest, AstraX astronomy meet, and the Hiking and Trekking Club's Himalayan treks.

In 2024-25, 93.4% of registered UG students were placed with average INR 27 LPA and highest INR 52 LPA (CSE, DSE, EE, ME). In 2023-24, 194 students placed (72.39%), average INR 22.38 LPA, median INR 18.5 LPA, highest INR 60 LPA; 192 companies participated. CSE students consistently average INR 26–29 LPA. Software and data science roles: 64.2%; analytics: 15%; core engineering: 13%. M.Tech VLSI had 63.9% placement rate with median INR 20.50 LPA in 2025.
