About Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital, Bhubaneswar (Campus-I)
Institute of Medical Sciences and SUM Hospital (IMS SUM), Bhubaneswar — Campus-I at Kalinga Nagar — is one of Odisha's premier private medical institutions, established in 2007 under the Siksha 'O' Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University. Among the first private medical colleges established in Odisha, IMS SUM quickly grew into one of the most comprehensive medical education and super-specialty healthcare complexes in eastern India, with a 1,600–1,750+ bed hospital, 250 MBBS seats, 111 PG seats across 21 disciplines, 35 super specialty seats across 15 disciplines, and over 4 lakh outpatients and 40,000+ inpatients treated annually. The college and hospital are located at K-8, Kalinga Nagar, Ghatikia, Bhubaneswar — approximately 10 km from Bhubaneswar Railway Station and approximately 12 km from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BBI). This central Bhubaneswar location, combined with the institution's NIRF #21 Medical ranking (2021), NAAC A Grade, NABH and NABL accredited hospital, and SOA University's UGC-recognized Deemed University status, has made IMS SUM one of the top three private medical colleges in Odisha by student preference. SUM Hospital — the dedicated teaching hospital of IMS — is a true multi-specialty and super-specialty tertiary care hospital with 1,600–1,750+ beds covering cardiology, nephrology, oncology, neurology, gastroenterology, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and more. The hospital sees 4 lakh+ outpatients and 40,000+ inpatients annually — a patient volume that provides exceptional clinical diversity for MBBS and PG students. SUM Hospital is NABH and NABL accredited and provides state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic services including cardiac catheterization, robotic surgery, and liver/kidney transplantation. The hospital also runs extensive community healthcare programs including free medical camps, rural outreach, and public health awareness initiatives. The academic infrastructure at IMS SUM is world-class. The campus has six air-conditioned lecture theatres with e-teaching facilities, well-equipped departmental labs, departmental museums, a full-fledged library with internet cafe, a language lab, high-speed campus Wi-Fi, two conference halls, an open auditorium, a large activity center for cultural programs, and separate hostels for boys and girls. The MBBS annual fee is ₹17,90,000 (AY 2024-25; increased to ₹21,95,000 from AY 2025-26 for new batches — fee increases approximately ₹2,00,000 per year). NRI annual fee: USD 48,875–50,000.
