About JJM Medical College, Davangere
Jagadguru Jayadeva Murugarajendra (JJM) Medical College, Davangere — popularly known as JJMMC — is one of Karnataka's oldest, largest, and most distinguished private medical institutions, established in 1965 by the Bapuji Educational Association (BEA) with the consensus and permission of the Government of Karnataka, Medical Council of India, and Central Government. The institution is driven by the vision of the Hon. Secretary Sri. Dr. Shamanur Shivashankarappaji, whose relentless efforts have elevated JJMMC to the zenith of medical education and made Davangere famous as the 'Oxford of Karnataka'. Bapuji Educational Association — established in 1958 by a group of visionary philanthropists — now runs 46+ educational institutions across Davangere covering all disciplines from primary to higher education. JJMMC is affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Bengaluru and approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) for 245 MBBS seats, 222 PG seats in 22 departments (the highest PG intake of any private medical college in Karnataka), and 1 Super-Specialty seat. It is ranked among the top 10 private medical colleges in Karnataka, ranked All India Management #6 and Karnataka State #5 by MBBSCouncil 2024. The 25-acre campus at Medical College Road, Kuvempu Nagar, Davangere — 577004 houses an administrative block, pre-clinical and para-clinical blocks, and the main Bapuji Hospital, with additional attached teaching hospitals providing over 2,210 beds collectively. The teaching hospital network includes: (1) Bapuji Hospital (720 beds, 22 major OTs + 2 minor OTs), (2) Chigateri General Hospital / District CG Hospital (~690 beds), (3) Bapuji Child Health Institute & Research Centre, (4) SS General Hospital, KR Road, (5) Women and Child Hospital, Mandipet, (6) STJ Rural Hospital, Channagiri, and (7) Community Health Centre, Kukkavada — collectively providing 2,210+ teaching beds with excellent clinical exposure. The library is claimed to be Asia's largest medical library. JJMMC runs a modern International Hostel for foreign and NRI students. The campus is 2 km from Davangere Railway Station (DVG) and approximately 159 km from Hubballi Airport (HBX).
