K S Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangalore, is a premier private medical institution established in 1999 by the Nitte Education Trust, located in Deralakatte — approximately 13 km from Mangalore city centre. KSHEMA is a constituent college of NITTE (Deemed to be University) and issues its own NITTE University degrees (not RGUHS — it was affiliated to RGUHS until 2009). The college is approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC), accredited with NAAC Grade A+, and recognized by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC). It is named after its visionary founder, late Justice K.S. Hegde — former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha — who founded the Nitte Education Trust in 1979. KSHEMA has 250 NMC-approved MBBS seats (expanded from 150 earlier), 136 PG seats across 21 MD/MS specialties, and Super Specialty DM/MCh courses including MCh Urology. A 1,000+ bedded NABH-accredited multi-specialty teaching hospital with 12 broad specialties and 15 super specialties. Serves as a major referral centre for coastal Karnataka, treating patients from Mangaluru, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kerala border districts. KSHEMA has 250 NMC-approved MBBS seats. ALL seats are filled through MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) Deemed University Counselling — there are NO KEA Karnataka state quota seats. Candidates must register at mcc.nic.in under 'Deemed University' category. All-India and non-Karnataka candidates are equally eligible.

Late Justice Kumaraswamy Subbayya Hegde (1909–1990) was a highly distinguished jurist and parliamentarian — Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He founded the Nitte Education Trust in 1979, which today runs 20+ professional colleges under NITTE University. KSHEMA was named in his honour in 2009.
