KSHEMA has 233 faculty members and strong research infrastructure with an active Central Research Laboratory; it maintains international collaborations with University of Toronto (Canada), Wake Forest University (USA), National University of Singapore, St. John's Research Institute (India), and BARC Research Centre of Mangalore University. Frequently Asked Questions
KSHEMA is a constituent college of NITTE (Deemed to be University) and issues NITTE University degrees — NOT RGUHS degrees. It was affiliated to RGUHS until 2009, when NITTE received Deemed University status from UGC/MHRD. This is a critical distinction: KSHEMA MBBS graduates receive NITTE degrees, and admissions are exclusively through MCC Deemed University Counselling — no KEA Karnataka state quota applies.
Late Justice Kumaraswamy Subbayya Hegde (1909–1990) was a highly distinguished jurist and parliamentarian — Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha. He founded the Nitte Education Trust in 1979, which today runs 20+ professional colleges under NITTE University. KSHEMA was named in his honour in 2009.
KSHEMA has 250 NMC-approved MBBS seats. ALL seats are filled through MCC (Medical Counselling Committee) Deemed University Counselling — there are NO KEA Karnataka state quota seats. Candidates must register at mcc.nic.in under 'Deemed University' category. All-India and non-Karnataka candidates are equally eligible.
Management quota tuition: ₹17,70,000/year. NRI quota: ₹28,20,000/year. Total tuition for 4.5 academic years (Management): ~₹79.65 lakhs. Additional Mess: ₹52,000/year; Hostel: ₹50,000–₹1,60,000/year (room type); refundable deposit: ₹20,000–₹60,000. All-in total including hostel for 5.5 years: approximately ₹90–100 lakhs.
