MMCRI holds an unparalleled place in Indian medical education history: it is the FIRST medical college in Karnataka (est. 1924), the ONLY medical college in the entire Karnataka region until 1952, and the SEVENTH oldest medical college in India. Founded by Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV — one of India's most enlightened rulers under whose reign Mysore was called 'The Model State of India' — MMCRI traces its genesis to 1833 when Krishnaraja Wadiyar III established a Vaidyashala. The college was shifted from Bangalore to Mysore in 1930 on the cherished insistence of the Maharaja himself, making it 'twice born'. It was the only medical college in Karnataka until Bangalore Medical College was established in 1952.
Government fee ~₹64,350/year (Karnataka Government norms 2024-25); first-year fee ₹72,050 (one source). Total 5-year academic cost ~₹3.6 lakhs. Hostel ~₹1 lakh/year. Intern stipend: ₹30,000/month.
MMCRI is a fully autonomous government medical college established and funded by the Government of Karnataka.
