The roots of SGR Ayurved Mahavidyalaya go back to 1917, when Seth Sakharam Nemchand Doshi established Seth Sakharam Nemchand Jain Aushadhalaya Trust in Solapur with a mission to provide pure vegetarian Ayurvedic medicines without alcohol, guided by the Jain principle of 'Aushadhdan' โ€” donation of medicine โ€” considered one of the most important forms of charity in Jain Shastra. The trust started with an OPD section and a Rasashala (Ayurvedic pharmacy) in 1917, expanded into a full hospital in 1956, and went on to establish Seth Govindji Raoji Ayurved College in 1962. Post Graduate education in Kayachikitsa was introduced in 1986, and in 1993 the Smt. Kasturbai Walchand Girls Hostel was built with a donation from Walchand Industries Charitable Trust.
