About Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Medical Sciences

Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Medical Sciences (SSIMS), Bhilai is one of the most prominent and highly regarded private medical colleges in Chhattisgarh, established in 2016. Located on a sprawling 40-acre lush green campus on Junwani Road, Bhilai, the college is managed by Shri Gangajali Education Society, Bhilai. It is affiliated with Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Memorial Health Sciences and Ayush University of Chhattisgarh, Raipur, and is recognised by the National Medical Commission (NMC). SSIMS holds the unique and prestigious distinction of being the first hospital in India to bear the name of Adi Shri Shankaracharya and to have the blessings of all living Jagadgurus. The institute was founded under the visionary leadership of Shri I.P. SSIMS offers MBBS (150 seats), MD/MS in 20 disciplines (68 PG seats), and Paramedical Certificate Courses (X-Ray Technician, OT Technician, Ortho Dresser, ECG/ICCU Technician) — all affiliated to the C.G. State Paramedical Council. The attached Sankara Hospital Bhilai is a 750-bed (permitted) multi-specialty tertiary care hospital that serves a population of more than 6 lakh people in the surrounding region, with over 1300 OPD patients per day and 200+ dedicated staff. SSIMS is Rank #1 among Private Medical Colleges in Chhattisgarh as per multiple education portals. The 40-acre campus includes modern lecture halls, a huge auditorium, fully equipped clinical laboratories with departmental museums, a digital central library with Indian and foreign journals, an advanced skills lab (with a dedicated Skill Lab Committee), a Central Research Lab, separate boys' and girls' hostels with 24-hour armed security and CCTV, and extensive sports facilities (basketball, volleyball, football, table tennis, cricket, badminton). The college conducts its own annual academic conference — SSIMSCON — and has active alumni chapters (Batchmates from 2016 onward) and a Find Alumni portal.
