Silicon University, Odisha traces its origins to 2001, when it was founded as Silicon Institute of Technology (SIT) by BITS Pilani graduates Sanjeev Nayak and Laxman Mohanty, under the Gyana Bharati Charitable & Education Trust. Silicon Residences (Hostels)
Two boys' residences and one girls' residence on campus, offering AC and non-AC room options (2- to 4-seated), managed by a Residence Committee of senior faculty members, with each resident provided a bed, table, chair, mattress, pillow and wardrobe.
Auditorium and Sky Lab
A 355-seater air-conditioned auditorium with a state-of-the-art audiovisual system for events, conferences and the Cine Club's weekly film screenings, plus the Sky Lab - an outdoor high-speed WiFi zone around a fountain, popular for informal study and socialising.

Semicircular, tiered-seating lecture theatres (capacity around 155) with projectors and surround sound for seminars and combined classes, plus four dining halls and a cafeteria on campus serving vegetarian, non-vegetarian and guest dining, with a dedicated no-onion-no-garlic option on request.

Silicon's programmes are approved by AICTE. It has held NAAC Grade A accreditation as an autonomous institute and is preparing to apply under the new university-format NAAC process. Three UG programmes - CSE, ECE and EEE - have held NBA accreditation, with renewal currently under review.

Silicon University, Odisha: Overview
The University's programmes are approved by AICTE, and three of its undergraduate engineering programmes - Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering - have held accreditation from the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), part of the Washington Accord, with renewed accreditation currently under review. Silicon has held a NAAC Grade A rating as an autonomous institute since 2014, and is placed in the 201-300 band in Engineering under NIRF 2024 and 2025, and the 151-300 band in Innovation under NIRF 2023. In 2026, the University also received Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) recognition from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, Government of India.
