About St. Stephen's Hospital College of Nursing
St. Stephen's Hospital College of Nursing (SSHCON), Tis Hazari, Delhi, traces its nursing education legacy back to 1908, founded by Ms. Alice Wilkinson, a co-author of the Indian Nursing Council's founding constitution, making it one of the oldest nursing training institutions in the country. Nurse training at 'B' Grade began in 1908, followed by the 'A' Grade Diploma course in 1952. In 2008 the erstwhile School of Nursing was upgraded to a College of Nursing, and the B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing programme was introduced that same year. The college is affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) and is recognised by both the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and the Delhi Nursing Council. It currently offers four programmes: General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM diploma, 50 seats), B.Sc. (Hons.) Nursing (50 seats), Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing (20 seats, started 2019) and M.Sc. Nursing (15 seats, started with 8 seats in 2017 and enhanced to 15 from 2022). All courses follow the Indian Nursing Council syllabus with English as the medium of instruction. As a Christian Minority educational institution, the college reserves seats for Christian candidates. The college has consistently secured 'A' Grade certification from the Joint Assessment Committee (JAC) of the Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of NCT of Delhi, and from the State Fee Regulatory Committee (SFRC). It operates within the campus of St. Stephen's Hospital, an ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and NABH Pre-accreditation Entry Level (PEH) certified teaching hospital, giving students direct clinical exposure across medical, surgical, obstetric, paediatric, psychiatric and community health settings, including community postings at the hospital's Community Health Centre in Sunder Nagari and specialised mental-health exposure at IHBAS.
