BAMS – Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

The BAMS programme is a five-and-a-half-year professional undergraduate degree (four and a half years of academic study plus one year of compulsory rotational internship) in Ayurvedic medicine and surgery. With an NCISM-sanctioned intake of 60 seats per year, it is the college's primary academic programme and the gateway through which the majority of students enter the institution. The programme is structured across eight semesters spread over four and a half years, followed by a full-year internship at the college's attached teaching hospital.

The BAMS curriculum covers a broad spectrum of subjects grouped into three phases. The pre-clinical phase in the first year introduces students to the foundational sciences of Ayurveda: Rachana Shareera (Anatomy), Kriya Shareera (Physiology), and Ayurveda Samhita and Siddhanta (Ayurvedic texts and principles). The para-clinical phase introduces Dravyaguna (Materia Medica), Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana (Pharmaceutics), Agada Tantra (Toxicology), and Roga Nidana (Pathology and Diagnosis). This is among the specialised PG programmes available in the Hospet region. Admissions are conducted through the AIAPGET (All India Ayush Post Graduate Entrance Test) examination conducted by NTA, followed by counselling by KEA for Karnataka state quota seats. Candidates must hold a BAMS degree from an NCISM/CCIM-recognised institution and must have completed their compulsory rotational internship by 31 July of the admission year. Out-of-Karnataka graduates must obtain an Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS. The limited intake of 3 seats per year ensures a highly supervised, mentorship-driven postgraduate training environment.

BAMS Eligibility Criteria

• Must have passed 10+2 / 2nd PUC with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology combined) for General category candidates
• Minimum 40% aggregate marks in PCB for SC/ST/OBC Karnataka domicile candidates
• Must have qualified NEET UG (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test) conducted by NTA
• Minimum age: 17 years at the time of admission (or turning 17 by 31 December of the admission year)
• Out-of-state (non-Karnataka) students must obtain an Eligibility Certificate from RGUHS Bangalore and a Migration Certificate from their qualifying board
