The National Medical Commission (NMC) has released the updated NEET PG seat matrix 2026 for postgraduate broad speciality courses. As per the public notice issued by NMC's Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) on November 6, 2026, India now has 68,305 PG medical seats across MD, MS and PG diploma courses for the 2026-27 academic year.
That is 5,128 more seats than the 63,177 seats in the first NMC PG seat matrix released on September 29, 2026, an increase of about 8.1%. The new seats come from colleges that got approval to increase intake or start new PG courses. The update lands right in the middle of NEET PG 2026 counselling, so candidates heading into MCC round 2 and state rounds should go through it carefully.

Important Directions in the NMC Public Notice
- Letters of Permission for new PG courses and increased seats will be issued only after the college submits an electronic bank guarantee (e-BG) and MARB verifies it.
- Colleges must submit the e-BG to the Director, MARB, within seven days of the notice.
- MCC and state counselling authorities must use only the latest notified seat matrix.
- No counselling body can allot or admit students against seats beyond what MARB has approved.
- The seat matrix can be revised later, and any revised list will replace the earlier one.
- Admissions beyond approved intake will be treated as a violation under the NMC Act, 2019.
What This Means for NEET PG Counselling 2026
More seats usually mean slightly better chances for candidates with mid-range ranks, especially in clinical branches at private and deemed colleges. But there is a catch. A new seat counts only after the college submits its e-BG and gets the Letter of Permission, so some seats may show up only in later rounds.
As per MCC's tentative schedule, NEET PG round 2 registration runs from November 6 to 11, choice filling from November 7 to 12, and the round 2 result is expected on November 14, 2026. Keep an eye on the round-wise seat matrix on mcc.nic.in before you lock your choices.
- Check if colleges on your list have added seats or started a new branch.
- Add colleges you skipped in round 1 if they now offer your preferred branch.
- Use the CaderaEdu college predictor to see where your rank fits.
- Recheck your score on the NEET PG result page.
