SAMC was established in 2002 as a unit of Santhigiri Ashram. The hospital at Olasseri, Palakkad, was started in 1997 by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru himself as a 20-bed charitable base hospital, expanding to a 100-bed teaching hospital by 2002-03 when the BAMS college formally commenced.

SAMC is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS), Thrissur, Kerala.

Santhigiri Ashram was founded in 1964 by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru at Pothencode near Thiruvananthapuram, guided by the motto 'Annadhanam, Athurasevanam and Athmabodhanam' (food service, service to the sick, and self-realisation). The Ashram works beyond caste, colour, and creed. Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College, Olasseri, Palakkad, Kerala (SAMC) – Complete Guide 2026

SAMC Palakkad: A BAMS College Rooted in Santhigiri Ashram’s 60-Year Tradition of Service and CSIR-Recognised Research

The Santhigiri Ashram Legacy: 60 Years of Service, SIRO Research, and the Nava Arogya Dharma Siddhantham

Founded in 1964 by Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru at Pothencode, Thiruvananthapuram, Santhigiri Ashram has spent six decades building a healthcare and research network across India and beyond. The Ashram's motto — 'Annadhanam, Athurasevanam and Athmabodhanam' — integrates food service, healthcare, and spiritual development into a unified mission. Recognised by CSIR as a Scientific Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO), the Ashram brings academic and research credibility that distinguishes SAMC from private college management trusts. Guru himself opened the Palakkad hospital in 1997, personally beginning the service to 60 surrounding villages that SAMC's college and hospital continue today.

100-Bed Hospital on the Banks of Sokanashini Puzha: Daily Free Camps, Kshara Karma, and Full Diagnostics

The attached 100-bedded Santhigiri Ayurveda Teaching Hospital runs OPD and IPD across all Ayurvedic departments — Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalakyatanthra, Salyatantra (with Kshara Sootra and Kshara Karma), Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, and Yoga — supported by Laboratory, Physiotherapy, X-Ray, and Ultrasound Scanning. Free medical camps on all weekdays provide free consultation and medicines to the needy. The campus herbal garden is established on the banks of Sokanashini Puzha (a Bharatapuzha tributary), providing a living medicinal plant resource directly alongside the river.

50 Seats, 32 Faculty, 10,000+ Library, 300-Capacity Hostel — An Optimally Sized BAMS Programme

SAMC's 50-seat intake (with 32 faculty for 271 enrolled students) reflects a deliberate commitment to maintaining an optimal student-teacher ratio — enabling the kind of personalised academic attention and clinical mentorship that is harder to achieve at larger colleges. The library holds 10,000+ volumes. Separate hostels for boys and girls can accommodate approximately 300 students in total. A vegetarian canteen serves Pathya-compliant meals. The CCRAS Spark 4.0 research programme participation (results published 2025-26) adds an active research dimension to the academic culture.

For NEET (UG) qualified candidates from Palakkad, Thrissur, Malappuram, and the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border zone evaluating BAMS colleges in Kerala, Santhigiri Ayurveda Medical College offers a unique combination: Santhigiri Ashram’s CSIR-SIRO credibility, 22+ years of BAMS education since 2002, NCISM recognition, KUHS affiliation, 100-bed hospital with free daily camps, Kshara Karma and Panchakarma clinical training, riverside herbal garden, 10,000+ volume library, 300-capacity hostels, and a fully NEET-based Kerala CEE merit admission process — all in one of the most serene campus environments in south India.
