The college was established in 1962 by Seth Sakharam Nemchand Jain Aushadhalaya Trust, Solapur. The trust itself was founded in 1917 by Seth Sakharam Nemchand Doshi.

SGR Ayurved Mahavidyalaya is the only Jain Minority Ayurvedic institution in the entire state of Maharashtra. It is also one of the oldest government-aided Ayurvedic colleges in Maharashtra, with over 60 years of academic excellence.
