History and Institutional Background

The roots of SDM CAH Hassan lie in the broader socio-educational vision of the SDME Society, which was established with the goal of making quality education accessible to rural and semi-urban youth across Karnataka. Today, the Society manages 56 institutions spanning kindergarten to doctoral level, and SDM CAH Hassan represents its flagship contribution to traditional medical education. Academic Programmes

SDM CAH Hassan offers the five-and-a-half-year BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) programme with an annual intake of 100 students. At the postgraduate level, the college offers MD (Ayurveda) in 11 specialisations and MS (Ayurveda) in 3 specialisations — totalling 93 PG seats per year. Ph.D (Ayurveda) programmes are also available, recognised by RGUHS from AY 2020-21. Short-term certificate courses in Ayurveda — basic, advanced, and 15 speciality-specific — are offered for practitioners and wellness enthusiasts. Attached to the college is the SDM Ayurveda Hospital, a fully functional teaching hospital with 360 inpatient beds across five clinical departments. The hospital consistently records monthly OPD visits between 9,000 and 11,000 patients and monthly IPD admissions of 600 to 1,000 — among the highest for any Ayurvedic teaching hospital in Karnataka. Speciality OPDs cover 15 clinical domains including Emergency, Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Manasa Roga, Shalya Tantra, Shalakya Tantra, Kaumarabhritya, Prasuti & Stri Roga, Swasthavritta, Agada Tantra, and Vajikarana.
