BAMS – Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery

The BAMS programme at SDM CAH Hassan spans five and a half years, comprising four and a half years of structured academic training followed by one year of compulsory rotating internship at the attached SDM Ayurveda Hospital. The annual intake is 100 students, making it one of the larger BAMS programmes in Karnataka's private Ayurveda sector. The curriculum follows the NCISM (erstwhile CCIM) prescribed syllabus and is designed across four academic years with progressive deepening of clinical exposure. First and second year students study foundational subjects including Rachana Sharira, Kriya Sharira, Dravyaguna, and Samhita; third year brings clinical subjects including Kayachikitsa and Shalya Tantra; and the fourth year integrates all specialities with intensive OPD and IPD postings at the hospital.

BAMS Eligibility

Candidates must have completed 10+2 (or equivalent) in the Science stream with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in these three subjects (40% for SC/ST and other reserved categories under Karnataka government norms). NEET UG qualification is mandatory for all applicants including NRI quota. The minimum age at the time of admission must be 17 years, and the candidate must have turned 17 by 31 December of the admission year.

BAMS Fee Structure

The programme emphasises research methodology, dissertation work, and advanced clinical case management.

MS (Ayurveda) – Postgraduate Programme

The MS (Ayurveda) programme covers three surgical specialisations — Shalya Tantra (General Surgery, 5 seats), Shalakya Tantra (Ophthalmology & ENT, 4 seats), and Prasuti Tantra avum Stri Roga (Obstetrics & Gynaecology, 6 seats) — with a combined intake of 15 seats per year. These programmes provide intensive surgical and procedural training using the well-equipped hospital facilities of SDM Ayurveda Hospital.

Short-Term Courses

SDM CAH Hassan also offers short-term certificate courses in Ayurveda at the basic and advanced levels, as well as 15 speciality-specific programmes. Course durations are 4 weeks and 12 weeks.
