MD/MS Vacant Seats After Round 1: How the Matrix Changes
The Round 1 matrix lists clear vacancies. After allotment and reporting, seats freed by upgrades and non-joining move into the next round. Colleges can also add new seats. MCC updates the matrix during the verification window before each round: 6 to 7 November, 25 to 26 November and 15 December.
Last year shows the scale of these changes. The 2025 Round 2 matrix had 17,623 clear vacancies, 11,837 virtual vacancies and 2,620 newly added seats. Virtual vacancies are seats held by Round 1 candidates who may upgrade.
We are not guessing 2026 vacancy numbers. Check the official Round 2 seat matrix when MCC publishes it, and follow the NEET PG 2026 seat matrix update for the latest notice.
